About Mark

The Short Version

I've been solving problems with technology for over 40 years. In 1980, I was using computers to help kids learn before most schools had them. I spent 15+ years consulting on AWS cloud infrastructure. Since late 2022, I've been building production systems with AI every single day.

I'm not an AI theorist. I'm a builder. I use AI tools to create working software, and I help other people and businesses do the same.

Where It Started

In 1980, I brought computers into the classroom — not because it was trendy (it wasn't), but because I could see how technology could reach students who struggled with traditional methods. The kids everyone else wrote off as "difficult"? They weren't difficult. They just needed a different approach.

That insight — that the right tool changes everything — has driven my entire career.

The Cloud Years

I founded Young Minds Australia as a technology consulting firm, becoming an AWS consulting partner. Over 15+ years, I helped businesses migrate to the cloud, build scalable architectures, and adopt DevOps practices. I earned five AWS certifications — two at Professional level (Solutions Architect and DevOps Engineer) plus three Associates:

AWS Solutions Architect Associate AWS Certified Developer Associate AWS SysOps Administrator Associate

That cloud expertise didn't go away — it's the foundation everything runs on. AI systems need solid infrastructure, and I know how to build it.

The AI Chapter

When ChatGPT launched in November 2022, I didn't just try it — I started building with it immediately. Within months, I had fundamentally changed how I work. I've been using AI tools every day since, not as novelties but as core tools in my workflow.

I've built entire production web applications using AI-assisted development. Not prototypes. Not demos. Real systems used by real businesses.

What I've learned through thousands of hours of hands-on AI use:

Why This Matters for You

Most AI consultants come from one of two backgrounds: they're either business strategists who've never built anything, or they're researchers who've never shipped a product. I'm neither.

I'm someone who builds working systems with AI every day, has deep cloud infrastructure expertise, and has decades of experience understanding what businesses actually need. That combination is rare, and it's exactly what's needed to help businesses implement AI that actually works.

Beyond Work

I'm based in Australia, working with clients locally and internationally. I'm a father, and I care deeply about how technology shapes the next generation. I also run a therapy practice — a career shift that taught me as much about understanding people as decades in IT did. That perspective informs how I work with teams navigating change.
